The Stories We Tell (And Those Untold): Using Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Counter-Storytelling in Research and Practice

Do you want to better understand the tenets of Critical Race Theory (CRT)? This session provides an in-depth overview of the five (5) main tenets of CRT and discusses how Critical Race Theory can be used as a tool to improve health professions education and academic medicine learning environments.

Target Audience

Intermediate to advanced learners

This course meets the GW faculty requirement for implicit bias training.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants should be able to: 

  • Define critical race theory (CRT), provide an overview of its key tenets, and discuss its relevance within academic medicine from both a practitioner and researcher perspective.
  • Discuss counter-storytelling from the CRT lens and provide key functions for employing this approach as researchers and practitioners.
