Role of Hormones and Nutrients in Immunocompetence and Longevity

Hormones play a significant role in addressing immunocompetency and lifespan. From the association between the endothelial glycocalyx and vascular health, the impact of immune factors on cardiovascular disease in female patients, the role of hormones in cognition, and much more, understanding the specific impacts of hormone health on the immune system will have significant implications to your approach to clinical care.

Target Audience

This course is designed for physicians (internal medicine, family medicine, endocrinologists, general medicine, and OB-GYN), pharmacists, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals interested in learning about the advancements of preventative and anti-aging medicine.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this module, the participants will:
  • Review the role of hormones and nutritional therapies in immunocompetency
  • List the foods that promote reduced inflammation and modulate immunity
  • Detect and treat fatigue due to hormone and nutritional deficits
  • Assess hormone and nutritional therapies that promote optimal sleep

Thierry Hertoghe, MD 

Dr. Hertoghe currently serves as President of the International Hormone Society. Born in 1957, he practices medicine that focuses on longevity and reversing the process of aging. Dr. Hertoghe represents the fourth consecutive generation of physicians who have worked in the field of hormone therapy; he practices medicine with a team of experienced doctors in Brussels. Dr. Hertoghe is an internationally recognized authority regarding medical therapies designed to correct hormone deficiencies, extend lifespan, and reduce or potentially reverse aging. 
 

Sahar Swidan, PharmD, BCPS, ABAAHP, FAARFM, FACA

Dr Swidan is President and CEO of Pharmacy Solutions in Ann Arbor, MI and Adjunct Associate Professor of Clinical Research and Leadership at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy at Wayne State University.
 
She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree and completed a 3-year research Fellowship in Bio-Pharmaceutics and Gastroenterology at the University of Michigan. Following her fellowship, she was Director of Pharmacy at Chelsea Community Hospital and the clinical pharmacist for the inpatient head and chronic pain service.
 
Dr. Swidan is board certified and an advanced fellow in anti-aging and regenerative medicine. She is an internationally renowned speaker in the areas of pain management, headaches, and HRT. She has authored several book chapters, articles, and patient education material in head and general pain management and personalized medicine.
 
Most recently, Dr. Swidan has contributed in authoring “Metabolic Therapies in Orthopedics, Second Edition”. This edition provides continued knowledge on how optimizing metabolic pathways can improve the success of regenerative therapies through emerging technologies, integrative approaches, clinical research, and compelling evidence from over 30 experts. Dr. Swidan provides key insight in the areas of drug-related muscular pain and sarcopenia and the effects of hormones on the musculoskeletal system.
 
Dr. Swidan co-edited and authored a book with many thought leaders from around the globe titled Advanced Therapeutics in Pain Medicine which aids clinicians in advancing their current toolbox in the treatment of various pain syndromes.
