Managing Difficult Discussions
The module is for any faculty person or community volunteer who will be leading meaningful and psychologically safe dialogue with health professional students. This course offers suggestions on how to lead difficult discussions and how to keep them psychologically safe so learning can be maximized for the student participants.
Target Audience
This course is for all educators training SMHS students in the clinical learning environment.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this module, participants should be able to:
- Recognize the importance of psychological safety and brave spaces in promoting respectful discussions in the learning environment.
- Discuss facilitator roles & responsibilities in leading discussions around charged topics.
- Outline a framework for managing difficult discussions around charged topics on the fly.
