This facilitator training workshop prepares educators and clinical leaders to effectively deliver the Interview Techniques for Gender Diverse Patients session within medical education settings. - Facilitators will be core members of the educational team for the Practice of Medicine (POM) Course at George Washington University School of Medicine, and they will have already served as facilitators as POM instructors or coaches.
Learning Objectives
- Facilitate discussions about gender identity exploration and communication strategies in a way that promotes psychological safety and inclusive learning.
- Model affirming language and evidence-based interviewing approaches when teaching about care for gender-diverse patients.
- Identify and address verbal and non-verbal behaviors that may unintentionally contribute to discrimination or patient discomfort.
- Guide learners in navigating confidentiality, family engagement, and referral to gender-affirming resources for youth and adults.
