Diabetes Medications and Treatments: Clinical Updates

OVERVIEW:

Dr. Isaacs, a Clinical Pharmacist and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, discusses the pharmacologic mechanisms of diabetes medications, explores the latest evidence on how they affect heart, kidneys, and weight management, and identifies potential side effects and clinical pearls. Additionally, you will learn how to design a therapeutic regimen and monitoring plan for patients based on the updated diabetes treatment algorithm and how to add non-insulin agents to insulin therapy. By focusing on evidence-based learning and practical application, this course equips healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills required for effective diabetes care management. This asynchronous enduring course requires a passing score on the knowledge checks, as well as a completed course evaluation to claim credit.

Diana Isaacs, PharmD, BCPS, BCACP, CDCES, BC-ADM, FADCES, FCCP​

Dr. Diana Isaacs is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist and the Remote Monitoring Program Coordinator at the Cleveland Clinic Diabetes Center, where she provides medication management and diabetes education. She is a recognized national expert in pharmacy clinical practice in diabetes management, has supported professional educational needs on diabetes clinical practice standards, and uses evidence-based practices with clinical teaching, and instruction of health care providers. She is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist and holds board certifications in pharmacotherapy, ambulatory care, and advanced diabetes management. Dr. Isaacs serves in leadership roles for several pharmacy and diabetes organizations and is passionate about the use of technology to help people with diabetes. Dr. Isaacs earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Dr. Isaacs also completed a pharmacy practice residency with an emphasis in ambulatory care and diabetes management at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center.
