James Platts-Mills, MD
Dr. Platts-Mills is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and International Health at the University of Virginia. His research focuses on the application of molecular diagnostics to the epidemiology of enteric diseases in children in low- and middle-income countries. This work has helped define the etiology and acute and chronic burden of diarrheal disease and the impact of interventions including targeted therapy and vaccines. He serves as a diarrheal disease expert for the Global Burden of Disease Study, sits on a WHO working group on enteric diseases burden estimation, and with colleagues at the CDC and WHO, co-founded the Global Pediatric Diarrhea Surveillance network.
