MD Reunion Weekend: Techquity: The Intersection of Medicine, Health Equity, and Technology
District of Columbia, DC US
November 9, 2023
From electronic health records to machine learning algorithms that recognize medical symptoms, the hype around medical technology has never been greater. However, in spite of the growing press coverage and increasing funding these technologies are receiving, little attention has been given to the effect that emerging medical technologies can have on historically underserved populations.
Join Rubin Roy (SEAS '23) and Dr. Maranda Ward (SMHS, GSHED '17), co-leads of the GW Medicine, Equity and Technology Initiative, as they discuss the intersection between health technology and health equity, and steps that practitioners can take to ensure the technologies that are being used truly serve the patients who are being treated. This course is open to all technical backgrounds (no prior knowledge of medical technology or health equity is expected) and CME credit is available.
