Biography:
Neal Parikh is an Assistant Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience at Weill Cornell Medicine. After receiving a B.A. from Yale College, he received his M.D. from Weill Cornell Medical College. He then completed residency in Adult Neurology at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine, serving as Chief Resident. This was followed by a hybrid fellowship in neuro-epidemiology and vascular neurology at The Neurological Institute at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. During this fellowship, he received an M.S. in epidemiology from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.
His primary research interests include the intersection of hepatology and neurology, and the practical matter of optimizing smoking cessation after stroke and TIA. His work on these topics has been published in JAMA Neurology, Stroke, the European Journal of Neurology. As relates to his work on smoking cessation, he is invested in advocacy through the American Academy of Neurology and uses media engagement opportunities to broadcast the importance of smoking cessation after stroke and TIA. He is currently supported by the New York State Department of Health Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program, the Leon Levy Foundation, and the Florence Gould Foundation Discovery in Stroke endowment. He serves on the editorial board of Stroke.
