HmF Conference 2023 - Day 2 - Patients and Patrons: Heritage Cooking for Health

Health meets Food: The Culinary Medicine Conference is a three-day gathering dedicated to teaching medical professionals and the communities they serve about the important connection between good health and healthy eating. Through a combination of hands-on cooking modules focused on helping transform the clinical experience, culinary skills-building sessions, evidence-based presentations and panel discussions we will explore the themes of this year’s conference. The overarching theme of this year’s conference is cultural explorations in Culinary Medicine and continued discussion of the intersection of healthcare and foodservice to focus on food and health amongst our patients, colleagues and policy makers.

  1. Review GW’s culinary medicine program implementation and growth
  2. Outline a roadmap for revenue generation of CM curriculum to support program sustainability
  3. Discuss challenges faced implementing culinary medicine curriculum with new audience and recommendations for improvement.

 

  1. Discuss the importance of contextual influences on food behaviors among Latin American communities
  2. Indicate how perceptions of healthy foods in Latin American diets may influence diet-related health outcomes
  3. Examine the role of the culinary sector for the promotion of healthier diets among Latin American communities

 

  1. Understand the Historical context of African American Cuisine.
  2. Increase understanding of the context “Food Cultural Understanding”
  3. Explore viable solutions to modifying the typical African American diet towards nutrition.

 

  1. Understand immigration patterns, countries of origin and representation in epidemiological investigations and surveys of South Asians in the United States.
  2. Define dietary acculturation and evaluate importance to health and dietary intakes and patterns among South Asian immigrants.
  3. Identify cardiovascular health effects and its prevalence among South Asian immigrants.
  4. Compare the association of dietary patterns and cardiometabolic risk.
  5. Illustrate frameworks for future research.
