MODULE II: A Revolution in the Diagnosis, Prevention and Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease

December 13, 2024 to December 15, 2024

This cardiology module focuses on the causes and mechanisms of hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease and metabolic syndrome, and how these conditions are interrelated and connected. The module also discusses various methods of diagnosis, evaluation and treatment, coupled with an assessment of laboratory evaluations, nutritional treatments and lifestyle recommendations.

Sessions additionally emphasize the treatment modalities available for hypercholesterolemia, hyperinsulinemia and hypertriglyceridemia, along with abnormal cholesterol fractionation results through a case history format.

  • Discuss risk factors for heart disease, including cholesterol, triglycerides, lipid fractionation, homocysteine, lipoprotein(a), ferritin, fibrinogen and C-reactive protein levels
  • List nutritional treatments and laboratory evaluations for hypertension and discuss the role of insulin in the development of hypertension with accompanying risk factors
  • Explain and discuss current literature on the complex physiologic relationships underlying cardiovascular and metabolic diseases 
  • Examine effective nutrition and nutritional supplementation strategies for hypertension, dyslipidemia and CHD management
