Systems-Based Practice
Identify institutional policies, practices, and care processes that can create barriers to or facilitate LGBTQIA-inclusive care, and describe opportunities to improve the care environment.
Practice-Based Learning and Improvement
Recognize gaps in one’s own knowledge, assumptions, and clinical practices related to LGBTQIA+ patients and families and identify strategies for improving future practice.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills
Use patient-centered communication strategies to respectfully elicit and incorporate patients’ names, pronouns, identities, relationships, chosen family, and preferences for involvement in care and decision-making.
Professionalism
Demonstrate respect for the dignity, autonomy, identities, relationships, and family structures of LGBTQIA+ patients, including when a patient’s values or life experiences differ from the clinician’s own.
