Speaker: Dr. Selene Koo, MD, PhD, Assistant Member, Department of Pathology, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Learning objectives:

  1. Discuss recent advances in clinical molecular testing for pediatric sarcomas
  2. Understand and compare the advantages and limitations of different molecular testing modalities used in the diagnosis of pediatric sarcomas
  3. Discuss potential novel applications of available molecular testing methods

Dr. Koo is a board-certified anatomic and clinical pathologist with subspecialty certification in molecular pathology and pediatric pathology. She is a practicing solid tumor pathologist and molecular pathologist at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, where she is an assistant member. She earned her MD and PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Chicago, where she also completed anatomic/clinical pathology residency and molecular genetic pathology fellowship, and subsequently completed a pediatric pathology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. She is an active member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, Association for Molecular Pathology, Cancer Genomics Consortium, and Society for Pediatric Pathology, where she serves on the Research and Awards Committee as Awards Director. She is on the editorial board for the journal Pediatric and Developmental Pathology. Her areas of research interest are related to molecular testing for pediatric solid tumors including sarcomas, including molecular characterization of these tumors and appropriate molecular test utilization for diagnostics.
