1. Describe the structural and functional characteristics of microbial biofilms and explain how they differ from planktonic bacteria.

2. Identify clinical scenarios in which biofilm-associated infections are likely, and recognize why these infections often don’t respond to standard antimicrobial therapy.

3. Apply current evidence-based management approaches to biofilm-associated infections and recognize potential future therapies.
