Learning Objectives:

  1. ACKNOWLEDGE the historical, socio-cultural context, and epidemiology of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) and its health impact.
  2. RECOGNIZE the human rights concerns and factors influencing health inequities and gaps in respectful care for communities affected by FGM/C.
  3. UNDERSTAND the legal and ethical controversies and apply best practice guidelines and evidence-based resources that engenders trust with refugee community stakeholders, facilitates community capacity-building, considers the social determinants of health, and promotes critical linkages to community resources and support.  
  4. IDENTIFY an interprofessional, team-based approach to the provision of linguistically inclusive, culturally, and trauma-informed care that optimizes health outcomes, and promotes the healing, health, and wellness of women and girls at risk of/or affected by FGM/C.
