Seth Perelman, M.D., FASA
Dr. Perelman received his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine and completed an anesthesiology residency at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Prior to joining the faculty in 2016 at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Care and Pain Medicine he was the Associate Chief of the Department of Anesthesiology at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in Englewood, NJ. In private practice, he developed an interest in blood conservation.
He is board certified in Anesthesiology and Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography, a Fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, a founding member of the Society for the Advancement of Blood Management (SABM) and a former member of their Board of Directors, and served as the SABM liaison to the AABB Perioperative Standards Committee. Additionally, he currently serves as an ASA member on their Committee on Patient Blood Management (COPBM) and on the SCA Blood Conservation Work Group.
He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Care and Pain Medicine at NYU School Grossman of Medicine and a member of the Transplant and Cardiothoracic anesthesiology team. As the Chair of the Patient Blood Management Committee, he is involved with the development of an enterprise wide Patient Blood Management program, and has devoted the majority of his scholarly and clinical activity towards decreasing the variability of transfusion practice, management of preoperative anemia, the efficacious use of allogeneic components and the importance of multidisciplinary PBM. He has been involved in the establishment of Preoperative Anemia Clinic at NYU Langone which has identified and managed preoperative anemia in over 400 elective surgery patients.
